Description

PTFE sheets are made from Polytetrafluoroethylene, a polymer created by the polymerization of tetrafluoroethylene (TFE) monomers. The resulting material is highly inert, with carbon-fluorine bonds that contribute to its resistance to chemicals, heat, and electrical conductivity. PTFE sheets can be manufactured through extrusion or compression molding processes to form large, uniform flat sheets.

Properties
PTFE sheets are characterized by the following key properties:

  • Chemical Resistance: PTFE is highly resistant to most chemicals, acids, bases, and solvents, making it ideal for use in harsh chemical environments.
  • Thermal Stability: PTFE can withstand a wide range of temperatures, from -200°C to 260°C (-328°F to 500°F), without losing its mechanical properties.
  • Non-Stick: PTFE has an extremely low coefficient of friction, making it ideal for applications requiring low friction and non-stick surfaces.
  • Electrical Insulation: PTFE is a non-conductive material, providing excellent electrical insulation in various applications.
  • Low Moisture Absorption: PTFE sheets are resistant to moisture, preventing absorption that could affect their performance.

Applications
PTFE sheets are used across various industries:

  • Sealing and Gasket Applications: PTFE sheets are commonly cut into gaskets and seals for chemical processing, food production, and other industries requiring tight seals.
  • Electrical Insulation: Due to their non-conductivity, PTFE sheets are used as electrical insulation in wiring and components.
  • Food Processing: Non-stick properties make PTFE sheets ideal for food-grade applications, such as conveyor belts and baking surfaces.
  • Mechanical Engineering: PTFE sheets are used as sliding surfaces, wear plates, and bearings due to their low friction and durability.
